M. Tech. in Environmental Engineering

The Civil Engineering Department (CED) is one of the pioneering departments ever since the inception of the college in 1963. The department is unremittingly engaged in imparting quality education, producing outstanding graduates to meet the societal needs through its qualified faculty and state-of-art infrastructure. Department offers 4 years BE course with 120 intake and 2 years postgraduation courses(M.Tech) in Structural Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Geo-Technical Engineering with 18 intake in each course. Department is recognized as Research Centre by VTU since 2003 and as QIP Research Center (Ph. D) by AICTE New Delhi in the year 2012. The department is recognized as a State Resource center to offer training in Earthquake Engineering under National Programme for Capacity Building of Engineers in Earthquake Risk Management (NPCBEERM). The CED has organized conferences, seminars, workshops and fetched research grants worth Rs. 163 Lakhs.

The Department of Civil Engineering started M.Tech in Environmental Engineering during 2004 with an intake of 18. The admissions are offered through PGCET/GATE and Quality Improvement Programs (QIP).
The programme is recognized by AICTE, accredited by NAAC and permanently affiliated to VTU. The specialization is also awaiting a visit from the NBA committee for accreditation.
The department facilitates well equipped independent classrooms with interactive board facilities and Environmental Engineering laboratory with advanced equipment like-Total Organic Carbon (TOC) Analyser, UV Spectrophotometer, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS), Flame photometer, Mobile Water Testing Laboratory. Along with this, a computational facility is also provided with software like- ENVI and Design Expert.
The curriculum of the programme emphasizes on deep understanding of fundamental principles, development of creative ability to handle the challenges of Environmental Engineering and the analytical ability to solve problems which are interdisciplinary in nature. The curriculum encourages the students to engage in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, essential for development, nurturing of team spirit, and developing organizational skills.
The faculty members of the specialization are involved in high quality research and consultancy services along with community outreach programmes such as Mobile Water Testing Laboratory (MWTL) to serve the rural people and spread awareness about water sources, its quality and management.
