Computer Engineering

 

The Department of Computer Engineering was started in the year 1994. It offers three–year diploma programme in Computer Engineering. The approved intake at present is 60 students per year.

Diploma in Computer Engineering is well sought-after by engineering aspirants because of the enormous employment potential it offers in today’s world. The department is focused on producing industry-ready computer engineers who are ready not only to meet the ever changing needs of the Computer Industry but also committed to serve the society and the nation at large.

The department has a team of highly qualified, well experienced and committed faculty and staff and state of the art infrastructure to cater to the academic needs of the students. All the laboratories are equipped with most modern infrastructure, hardware and software, and have sufficient quantity of PCs and peripherals to accommodate 60 students at a time for laboratory classes. Open source software is predominantly used for conducting practical classes during all semesters. All the laboratories are fully networked using structured cabling.

Besides routine academic activities, the staff and students of the department provide technical assistance in maintaining and troubleshooting computers in the entire institution. The campus wide network, language laboratory and the central computing facility of the institution are managed and maintained by the Department. In addition, it facilitates all the IT-related activities of the College.

The department also maintains a department library with sufficient number of books on computer engineering subjects. The Computer Engineering Students Association (CESA) is very active and regularly organizes a variety of technical programs to familiarize the students with the latest advances in the computer engineering discipline. These programmes help to improve the organisational skills of the students. The department also organizes training programmes on open source software for various Government departments.

Overview

Government Polytechnic College Kasaragod was established in the year 1988. The 12.8 acre wide campus is situated beside the National Highway NH 66 at Vadakkekkara, Periye in the Pullur-Periye Grama Panchayath. It offers five three-year Diploma programs in the disciplines of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics Engineering, and Computer Engineering. The annual intake of the institution is 280 at present. The college is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and is affiliated to State Board of Technical Education, Kerala (SBTE Kerala).

The College was established as the first Government Polytechnic College in the northernmost district of Kerala. It was established with an objective of providing quality technical education with skill oriented training at low cost to the youth of North Malabar region, most of which are still socially, economically and educationally backward. The emblem of the College was designed and materialised by Sri. N. A. Padmanabhan, who is a former Tradesman in Carpentry section of this institution.

GPC Kasaragod started functioning in 1988 with two diploma programmes in Engineering viz. Electrical & Electronics Engineering, and Electronics Engineering. In 1994, two more diploma programmes – Mechanical Engineering and Computer Engineering were started. The latest addition to the list of programmes is Diploma in Civil Engineering, which was started in the year 2016.
