Civil engineering is a people-serving profession, concerned with the planning, design, construction and operation of large, complex systems such as buildings and bridges, water purification and distribution system, highways, rapid transit and rail systems, ports and harbors, airports, tunnels and underground construction, dams, power generating systems and structural components of aircraft and ships. Civil engineering also includes urban and city planning, water and land pollution and treatment problems and disposal of hazardous wastes and chemicals. The design and construction of these systems are only part of the many challenges and opportunities faced by civil engineers. The recent revolution in computers, communication and data management has provided new resources that are widely used by the professional civil engineer in providing safe, economical and functional facilities to serve our society.
At CIT, the Civil Engineering branch started in the academic year 2010 with an annual intake of 60 students. The department has state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with modern equipment. Currently undergraduate degree (B.E.) is offered by the department.
To be a centre of excellence in civil engineering education, by creating professional engineers to serve the society
Mission
PSO1: Proficiently apply mathematical principles and basic courses, such as Engineering Mechanics, and Surveying, to design, develop, analyze, and solve problems across diverse domains within civil engineering. Leverage this foundational knowledge to address complex challenges in the field
PSO2: Utilize advanced courses, including Finite Element Analysis, Environmental Impact Assessment, and Risk and Reliability Analysis, alongside foundational knowledge, to assess the quality of construction materials, evaluate structures, and estimate the cost of Civil Engineering projects, all while upholding the highest standards of professional ethics
PEO1: Graduates will adeptly apply Civil Engineering principles in their professional endeavours.
PEO2: Graduates will demonstrate teamwork and leadership abilities, fostering entrepreneurship.
PEO3: Graduates will actively contribute to societal needs with unwavering ethical standards.
PEO4: Graduates will showcase a commitment to lifelong learning within the civil engineering
The department routinely organizes technical talks by leading industry experts and academicians in diverse areas to spread awareness among students and staff. The department also undertakes Consultancy and Product Development projects for industries.
